- Shoot whoever originated the term "V.42bis+"! Some manufacturers allow serial
- port speeds higher than 115200 bps - in particular Hayes also sells a 230,400
- bps serial port - but there is absolutely nothing in their V.42bis
- implementation that exceeds the V.42bis specification. All manufacturers can
- choose the dictionary size, maximum string length, and other parameters within
- a range... and it's debatable how effective these settings are in achieving a
- higher degree of compression on any particular type of file.

- I've seen advertising for an ISDN TA with data compression, and I think that
- you'll see more and more of them. You are also overlooking the fact that (a)
- ISDN offers _multiples_ of 64kbps throughput on _any_ data, and with a low
- latency that modems can't match. There's more to life than ZMODEM transfer
- rates, whether they're .ZIP and .GIF files or big text files.
